Warning: Some of the (actual) posts are offensive:
An employee posts on Instagram: “Charlie Kirk got what he deserved.”
An employee creates and posts on YouTube a video describing his employer as “operating a sweat shop.”
An employee posts on Linked In: “Free Palestine”
We will discuss these and other not-so-hypothetical posts in a fast-moving interactive program on social media.
We will begin with the key element of a social media policy. In particular, we will talk about what requirements and restrictions should apply to (a) professional social media, (b) personal social media and (c) both.
We then will talk about the legal and cultural factors an employer should consider in deciding whether and when to respond to “potentially offensive” personal social media. It’s not about risk avoidance but risk selection!
