Course Description

Workforce reductions not only test an organization’s ability to make critical decisions about the structure and composition of its workforce, but also present a multitude of potential legal compliance challenges. The manner in which they are implemented also communicates an organization’s values and vision to the employees who remain. This program provides an overview of the strategies and techniques for managing and implementing workforce reductions, including:

  • A systematic approach for managing workforce reductions
  • Options including involuntary RIFs, voluntary reduction programs and furloughs
  • Steps and techniques for implementing involuntary RIFS and voluntary programs
  • Complying with WARN requirements
  • Drafting separation agreements in light of new National Labor Relations Act requirements that apply to non-union employees and requirements for group terminations under the Older Workers Benefits Protection Act
  • Employee communications strategies following workforce reductions
