Course Description:
Many of us are conducting background checks (and if you’re not, why not?) and the process just keeps getting more and more complicated. Whether it’s the EEOC’s on-going assault on the consideration of criminal convictions, local jurisdictions banning the box, imposing restrictions on the considerations of salary information, or confusion on what should and should not be on employment applications, one thing is clear – we all need help keeping up! We all recognize that part of making the decision of who is the best applicant to hire for a position should be ensuring that this person has not engaged in any kind of conduct in the past that reasonably should disqualify the applicant from employment. This seminar will discuss the hiring process, with special attention to how legally to conduct background checks, the recognition of implicit bias and steps to mitigate such bias in the hiring process, what information properly can be considered and common pitfalls made by employers throughout the process. This program is designed for human resources professionals, in-house counsel and senior managers.
