Course Description:
The EEOC could spend virtually its entire time investigating just harassment charges. Harassment on account of sex, race, disability, religion or any other "protected group" remains a persistent problem. And, recently, there has been an uptick in harassment claims of myriad kinds. It is not only a legal issue but also an issue of employee engagement and organizational reputation. Employers have come a long way but must do more. What is necessary is a systemic attack on this workplace plague. This program will focus on employer policies, compliant procedures, supervisory training programs, employee education, protections against retaliation and dating policies. The program also will discuss how employers can weave into their holistic approach the role of bystanders, the importance of civility and the "risk factors" identified by the EEOC. Segal will focus on lessons learned from being on the EEOC's Select Task Force on Harassment. However, Segal neither speaks for the EEOC nor the Task Force.
