On its surface, the FMLA seems straightforward – an employee is eligible for a certain amount of unpaid leave (generally up to 12 workweeks) during a designated 12 month leave period for certain covered events. However, HR professionals routinely face the challenges of complying with the FMLA. At times, implementing the FMLA is anything but straightforward.
